My experience through checkout was definitely an interesting journey. As of the new year, our Military Retirees, Veterans and Family Members need to know Home Depot has MAJOR changes in effect: 1. No military discounts using your Military Retiree ID or VA VHIC. They are no longer valid to use at checkout. 2. Each Veteran and spouse must register for their military discounts and use the QR code for in-store checkout to receive your military discount on eligible purchases. 3. The military discounts cannot be applied to select items, services and fees, including, but not limited to, some commodity products (including lumber, wire, building materials), value priced merchandise, appliances, tool rental fees, labor items, gift cards and services including freight and delivery. From the official Home Depot SKU Exclusions, “Many of the products we sell have a unique pricing model. . .we will at times exclude certain SKUs within specific departments from receiving the military discount." When these select SKUs are excluded (unfortunately the only way to know is to scan the product at a register). If needed, a store manager has the power to override the exclusion. 4. Finally, written small print at each register and on their web page - Eligible participants receive a $400 maximum annual discount which resets each calendar year. The discount cannot be combined with other promotions or previous purchases and is for personal use only. The Home Depot reserves the right to change eligibility requirements or terminate the discount program at any time, with or without prior notice to eligible participants. Any changes will be effective immediately, and participants waive any right to receive specific notice of such changes. The Home Depot reserves the right to revoke enrollment status based on alleged, suspected and/or actual evidence of misuse or fraud in our sole and absolute discretion. Offer is not redeemable for cash, is non-transferable and cannot be combined with manager-discretion price adjustments. Additional exclusions may apply. See store for details. I am both a Retiree and a Veteran. I am fortunate, I have access to their website and am able to navigate my way through it. With these changes, my first thought is the impact to our senior Veterans and Retirees who do not know how to use the internet or have limited knowledge accessing and navigating the internet will not receive military discounts. Many from these groups above live on fixed incomes. They anticipate to receive these discounts to help make their money stretch through the month. BLUF: Do your homework before going to and while at Home Depot. Checking out is not the time to find out your item(s) do not qualify for military discount. Finally, I believe there is always a silver lining in all experiences. My overall experience at the checkout was acceptable. She communicated well to soften my concerns and confusion about these changes with good customer service.

I went here with my husband to get a few things we needed to upgrade our home both inside & out! Everyone working there was very nice, polite & friendly! Every single person we walked by that worked there ask if we were finding everything we needed! Never have we been anywhere that that has happened, no matter what kind of store! We were both very impressed & will definitely be back to get the rest of the things we will need to finish out projects from now on!

Friendly, helpful employees, store is clean and organized. Shame what they did to the military discount though. Pretty much eliminated it except for the name itself. Many items are excluded now, there is a new 400$ annual cap, you have to use an app with poor functionality vs showing ID, as well as other new stipulations listed in other reviews. If you're going to do the military discount great, if not, that's understandable as well. To say you have a military discount for advertising and publicity purposes while eliminating it except in name is pandering and dishonest imo.
