  The family at Southern Development is amazing! It's no wonder they are the areas premier local builder. We weren't even considering buying, let alone building a home when we walked into the Savannah model for the first time. What really struck me about that home was the quality of the craftsmanship. We looked at other builders, some large and some local, and there was a difference. There was an attention to detail not seen in the other models, the model lacked the paint smell that the other models did, there were no cold pockets or noticeable deviations in temperature when walking throughout the home, we could tell this was a different type of builder, that was our first experience of the Southern Development difference. This wasn’t even what sold us on building with Southern though, it was truly their design. I went to Cascadia because I liked the idea of a rooftop deck, I looked at other designs and while I liked them, I was not compelled to pull the trigger. At the time, Southern had not finished their model yet, but they did have a Virtual Reality tour of what the Allendale was going to look like. My wife and I were able to navigate through our future home, all before they had laid the foundation for a model. The Allendale is unique to Cascadia because it is a wider Brownstone with a two car garage, and rooftop deck that displays the beauty of downtown Charlottesville and sunsets that look like that were painted. We were sold! Once we secured our financing, the Southern Development family held our hand as the dream inched towards reality. We started in the Southern Development Design Center, we worked with Anna to customize our home. We were able to see the backsplash and countertops, we could touch the cabinets and carpets, were even able to turn on the water in one of their kitchen sink faucets. Anna was open and honest with us, helping us to make the best choices and stay mindful of the budget. From the Design Center the work began, Mike keeps us abreast of all of the milestones of our build, one really cool thing that I have liked, is that he sends us pictures periodically of our house as it comes together. The whole Southern Development Family has been available to answer any questions that we have had and answer emails in a timely manor. The Southern Development Family is different because they go the extra yard. For their up and coming neighborhoods, you can walk through the homes virtually before they are even available. You get a trained designer to walk you through your design choices. They are local and have to provide a product that they can stand behind. More than anything else they are neighbors, they are friends, they are family. I didn’t know them before I purchased from them, but now they are on my Christmas card list.

  I have nothing but amazing and wonderful things to say about every bit of Southern Development Homes. Nancy helped us tremendously throughout building, buying and just knowing exactly what we needed in terms of the process. She knows what buyers want and need and really gets to know customers. Anna and Virginia were extremely helpful through the selections we made for our townhouse. Anna used my Pinterest pages to help us make selections that met our tastes and wants. Doug was also extremely helpful and made sure the home we moved into was quality; he found things we did not at our final walk through. That shows how much pride he has in the homes Southern Development builds. We cannot thank the entire Southern Development team: Nancy, Anna, Virginia, Doug, and Frank for their personalized and caring approach to ensuring customers buy a quality home, suited to their tastes and needs. Their flexibility and care for their customers was evident throughout our home building journey with them. THANK YOU SDH!!!

  We built with Southern Development in Old Trail in 2018 and have been in our house for almost a year. We definitely didn't go into the process looking to build, but when we talked to Nancy Witte we started to see how it might make the most sense for our family. After looking at several neighborhoods and builders, we settled on Old Trail and Southern Development because we fell in love with the Pippin floorplan and the overall transparency of Southern. All of our questions were answered and we felt good about getting the most for our budget. Anna was amazing at the design center. She helped guide us to beautiful choices that were within budget. Nancy has been absolutely wonderful throughout the entire process, from the beginning when we had a million questions, to the when is this house going to be finished stage (ha), to the we’ve moved in and still have questions stage. She is an invaluable asset to the team! The other thing we love is the family atmosphere Southern fosters hosting Old Trail neighborhood events allowing new and existing neighbors to meet and socialize. We are very happy in our new home!
