Roof Hawk replaced the drip edge and fully re-shingled the residence pictured at the end of May 2021.  A couple months later there were sounds of an animal in the attic.  Upon inspecting the roof line it was found there was a large gap beneath the drip edge that Roof Hawk installed -1/2" in in some areas!  This  was an exterior gap that went into the attic space.  Water was able to get in, as well as being an easy access for rodents and insects.  That gap left with the roof edge they installed was something that should have been noticed and addressed immediately, and work delayed until appropriate materials could be acquired. Worst of all was the owners lack of integrity.  In his response to the email alerting him to the problem, he lied.  He said no other sizes of drip edge were available and that a longer drip edge would have to be custom made at a metal shop.  He then suggested ways to fix the gap (see screenshot of the email).  When it was mentioned larger drip edge IS sold locally, he said that if it was provided, he could send someone out to install it.  This error would have been not nearly as big a deal if they owner had been honest, and if there had been some urgency to the correction (it took them a month after being told the drip edge had been purchased and was on site, meanwhile there were storms and more water damage).  Also, paying the difference for a longer drip edge would have been fair, but having to pay the full amount for new materials so Rook Hawk could fix their error isn't right.   Their compromise was accepted to avoid the time of taking them to court.

      Response from the owner

We understand your frustration. We rarely experience a roof that has had two layers of decking added and fascia that doesn't extend to the decking. We offered four solutions at the time it was found. The options ranged from installing fascia to the proper height so there could be no issues with future re-roofs to larger drip edge. You are correct that we stated that larger drip edge had to be made as our shingle suppliers don't provide but one size and we have had to have it custom made in past years. We had never considered Lowes as a source as their standard drip edge and gutters are a much thinner gauge metal that a shingle only supply house. Further, we were unaware of them even having any option to the standard size. Lastly, regarding the delay in getting the larger drip edge installed. Last year we had one of our employees contract Covid and it was our lead repairman. He was out for 4 weeks and then only at half capacity for another 2 weeks upon his return. The easy solution would have been to hire a roofing crew to do the work, however we wanted to ensure the work was done correctly and we were concerned a roofing crew could cause damage to the shingles in the process of removing and replacing the drip edge. Our only way to ensure there would be no additional in or future problems were to use our in-house repairman. Again, I understand your frustration and offer an apology. I hope this better explains our understanding and position at the time. If you would like to discuss further please reach out to our office and I will be happy to talk with you.

Had a great experience! Had shingles fly off with the wind and it was supposed to rain that night. I called after hours and they were able to send someone out with 45 min to replace my shingles. I will definitely use them again!

      Response from the owner

We appreciate you sharing your experience with others. We are glad to have a repair team that understands how much is at stake when a roof is exposed when rain is coming.

Very professional, from day 1 of doing my inspection they were very straight forward and did not try to upsell me on anything. If you're looking for a quality roofing company, I highly recommend.

      Response from the owner
