BUYER BEWARE – please read until the end. When I first contacted Cardinal Roofing (Roger), I specifically mentioned a problem I was having with fascia. When the crew arrived, I mentioned it again and pointed out 2 specific problem areas. The first were corners (soffit) that were patched to keep rats out of the attic, and the second, where wood was known to be rotten because of the improper roof installation (including drip cap) 15+ years ago. I suppose I was too trusting and believed their website about being experts in roofing repair. When they finished, I still had the same problems. Yes, they replaced rotten wood, but that was only the symptom. The drip cap is a huge problem and water washes directly onto the cedar fascia when it is supposed to drip away from the wood. I observed this the day after they were done because it rained. The patchwork rat mitigation is back but they failed to address 2 of the corners at all. What they did do for the other corners, looks terrible. Funny thing is they never asked me about solving the problems during the re-roof. In the beginning they were pleasant to work with, but after I paid my bill, and mentioned I had some concerns, the attitude changed. When the 2 people came out, they said basically, this is the design of your house and too bad. They even admitted the soffit looked bad and the drip cap being flush against the fascia was not good. This is a poor response, as they took enough of the fascia off that the actual problem could have been solved had they thought about it and presented me with solutions. Again, they claim to be roofing experts and they should have solutions to problems. I paid a premium for a new roof free of problems, and yet, I still have the same problems. The manager did not even attempt to call me although I left voice mail on his phone. Words cannot convey how profoundly disappointed I am in their service as well as their customer service. DO NOT use this company. And, oh by the way, if you want Wind Mitigation inspection, Cardinal charges a fee for a company to do this service ($125 charge (what I paid) for invoice stating $95). The Florida code changed, and underwriters want to see photo evidence of the nailing pattern, the distance between nails, and the types of nails. Unless you climb up the roof yourself during the period between tear off and before they start the re-roof, you will not get what you need. This was also hugely disappointing as they should know that and had their contract inspector out during the project and not after. This was a waste of my money. I saved up money for years to finally be able to get a new roof and solve the problems. Cardinal Roofing should be ashamed of themselves for poor service and poor service after the sale. I have photos of the job after installation that show improper drip cap and ugly corners.

Dan from Cardinal Roofing came out, assessed the (relatively minor) damage and (due/thanks to weather) had a crew here in less than 24 hours. The first time we had roof damage they were just as attentive, so I'm going to assume they're always this good. I will recommend them to anyone I know (which is admittedly not a lot of people, but hey, I try). I hope to not see them again (for obvious reasons), but they WILL get the call should the need arise.

If you are selling your home and need a scummy company to check some boxes, Cardinal Roofing it for you! Unfortunately, I was buying a home and the seller was going with Cardinal Roofing. We went through a different company for our inspection (suncoast roofing which will be doing our repairs, if you're looking for a reputable company) and they told us that the ceramic roof would need flashing to prevent leaking. We paid them to do an inspection and Cardinal roofing WITHOUT doing any sort of inspection at all told us that the roof "Wasn't broke so why fix it?" (I attached their email they sent out). Luckily for us, it rained! And it clearly WAS leaking. But then they wanted to do the repair! Absolutely not. We did our part to hire professionals and they just came in without doing any inspection and compromised the sale of a home due to their incompetence. Here is a screenshot of the email they sent out informing us the roof was fine without any sort of inspection and just a few days later when we did a final walk through after it rained. It leaked exactly how and where the other roofers said it would. As a veteran, being screwed by a veteran owned business was just peachy. Thanks for the thumbs up on a leaky roof.
Response from the owner
We are very sorry that you are not happy with your real estate transaction. We were not hired to perform a roof inspection on this property, we were asked to provide a proposal to repair specific issues noted in a home inspection done by a license home inspector(not from our company). When our team went to the property, we addressed the 3 cosmetic issues noted in a page from a home inspection report provided to us. Chipped tiles, excess foam from a previous repair and a suggestions to top flash a furnace vent( which is not the vent that later leaked). When it was later discovered that the roof had a leak, our team revisited the property and investigate the leak for the first time. To reiterate, we were never asked nor allowed to do a roof Inspection on this property. We provided a proposal to repair the area not found by the home inspection, a large area of rotten decking and a large hole in the off ridge vent. This was not the gas vent noted in the inspection, it was a 4 foot off ridge vent. I cannot see a snapshot of the email you are referring to, but I do see an email in our system that seems similar to what you are quoting. You will notice, twice that it states we are not performing a full roof inspection. We addressed issues directly represented to us by the seller We were never hired by you, we used the information we were given by the seller, from your home inspector, who did not note any roof leaks, to provide an estimate to fix items noted by your home inspector. Your review may need to be directed at a company actually hired to inspect the property as we were not hired to do an inspection and were physically shown 3 pictures and asked for our opinion and pricing on them, (which were only pictures of aesthetic issues). Again, your issue is not with us. If you would like to come to our office to review all our correspondence regarding the roof on your new home, that we were not hired to inspect, you are welcome to do so, please call us at (813)689-ROOF to schedule a time.
