  We hired Donald to remodel our bathroom for an in-law suite. This involved installing a glass shower, vanity, shower bench, a linen closet, and painting the adjacent bedroom. The job was abandoned for 3 weeks, although the deadline he promised us was 2 weeks (we would have accepted a month). As soon as 2/3rds of payment was collected for what he claimed was 2/3rds of the work, the job was abandoned (tools and supplies untouched). We were forced to chase him for responses. It was one excuse after the other (hurt knee, family emergency, “sidetracked/overwhelmed.” After the fourth no-show, we decided to terminate our business relationship. His team is comprised of his family members. From this experience, we learned the importance of incorporating a deadline into a contract. It is important to note that he told us he also works for SEARS installations. Donald knew that our parents were relying on the work to be done by the end of September in order to move in, but now we have to find someone else to finish the job.
