  We bought a 1970's cabin on an island that needed major renovations (oh and we live 2 hours away) so we needed someone we could trust completely. We luckily found John B and his team and they were THE BEST! Great communication, completely trustworthy, worked within our budget, were open to our ideas, brainstormed perfect solutions when needed, and had great relationships with other tradespeople in the area. And our cabin? Beautiful! They stuck to their timeline and we were able to start enjoying our cabin by the time the ice was off the lake. Honestly, we might need to start another project just because we miss John B and his team so much! :)

  So grateful for the work that John Baker and his team did for us! Same cabin as referenced in another review here by Rebekah Martin...bought it in the fall, his crew completely gutted and renovated the interior over the winter, and we were enjoying it by sprint time! John is detail-oriented, efficient, and the work he does is top quality.

  If you’re considering a construction project in the Aitkin County area, Wausau Homes is the way to go and John Baker is your guy! We wanted to build a small but lovely weekend getaway on property we own in McGrath. We were feeling a bit discouraged and slightly insulted by builders we’d screened, sensing that our project was not significant enough for them to be bothered with. We found that Wausau Homes was just opening a branch in Aitkin. We contacted the builder there and things very quickly and seamlessly evolved. John was incredible to work with. Reliable, communicative and attentive. He clearly outlined the Wausau process to us and helped us to tailor one of their custom floor plans to meet our size and cost criteria. He coordinated all of the workers, supplies, and moving parts. He’s very well connected and every single sub-contractor he enlisted seemed to be the best in their trade. He cheerfully did revision upon revision as we’d rethink and change our minds about something. The actual “build” commenced on the exact date outlined and the cost did not deviate one dime from the amount we’d agreed to. It was fun to watch the bulk of the construction work be completed in two days. From start of build to finish was about 2 1/2 months. We would recommend Wausau Homes of Aitkin without hesitation.
