This family owns beach house rentals as well. I, along with 11 other people, reserved one of their houses about two months ago. Because of stay at home orders/travel restrictions and group size restrictions set in place by county and state officials due to the COVID-19 outbreak, enjoying our planned vacation at their beach house was no longer an option. After sending multiple messages the owners, owners finally responded the week of our scheduled trip and refused to give any type of credit (for rescheduling) nor partial or full refund.

We have stayed at the builder’s vacation rental previously and enjoyed our stay so we decided to book again for our anniversary. After we booked and paid the deposit we received an email to ‘click here to buy insurance’ with a note to let them know how much we paid to apply to the invoice. They had not required this previously, nothing on the website mentioned this and it seemed to be an undisclosed add on cost so I tried to obtain more info. The email also had a “click here” for the short term rental agreement, but landed on a 404 error page- no rental agreement. I had tried emailing- no response. I tried calling Mike whose number is in the email to call for questions, and he would not provide answers instead he asked to send the questions to him by text. So I texted the questions and received a response the following day with a curse word in the message- very unprofessional. I told them they can refund our deposit and cancel our reservation at that point. He apologized and said the message was for his daughter and sent to me in error, but that is where we decided to draw the line. Enough red flags were received. I understand- we all have bad days, weeks and years- but no need to pass that on to your customer. The one star is for the apology, but we won’t go through this business again. We still have no idea what the undisclosed insurance cost was for. And to think we were contemplating possibly hiring this company to build. Nope and nope 👎
