Barfield Roofing was used to install the roof on my brand new house. Barfiled Roofing chose the underlayment material and when they installed it, the underlayment had ripples in it. They chose to shingle over the ripples and now my roof looks like it has pool noodles under the shingles. Barfield roofing said they didn't want their name associated with how bad the roof looked and would fix it. They installed the roof in March of 2020 and as of November 2020 they haven't fixed it. They keep trying to blame everyone else and do not take ownership of the issue. They said they would remain in contact with me, but have not contacted me or my builder about a resolution. I would stay away from this roofer!!! They follow up saying it was the builder that selected the materials and that is 100% a lie. I have the invoice the builder received from Barfield roofing and Barfield roofing were the individuals that selected the roofing underlayment.

    Response from the owner

I am sorry, Cory, but you are misinformed on some points. As is customary, the builder purchases materials and subcontracts installation. We did not select the materials. We have been in regular contact with the builder, who hired us. In our conversations we have been informed that the homeowner would be unsatisfied with anything short of entire roof replacement. Because this is a self-adhesive underlayment, that would also force replacement of the sheathing. We have also been expected to bear the entire financial burden of those remediation efforts. This is despite efforts we have already made, free of charge, to resolve the issues in the worst areas. We saw improvement in those areas and offered to continue with the rest of the roof. Again, we've been told that the homeowner will not accept anything short of replacement. The effect in your shingles is a result of a manufacturer defect in the underlayment. With research you will find many other cases of that particular underlayment having this issue. Case in point, it was a conversation today with a material supplier concerning your same issue (different roofer) that prompted me to respond to your review. Our position is still that the appearance is unacceptable. However, there are too many additional factors beyond our control for us to be solely responsible for the wrinkles. We installed all materials per manufacturer specifications and code requirements. Additionally, spray foam insulation was used in the attic, which voids the warranty of both underlayment and shingles. This practice is common enough without issue, but it does present difficulty when pursuing restitution from the material manufacturers. I hope the information I've provided gives some context to your issues. I've left out details that I didn't feel were appropriate for a public response.
