Contractors Beware! Unprofessional, Can't Deliver, Will Not stand behind their product! This was the first time I decided to use McElroy. I purchased metal roofing materials. I used the Chesapeake VA loacation. I am a licensed contractor who took a chance with a new distributor and paid for it. I typically use ABC and Best Building Mats. I listened to the locations salesman's(Dan) sales pitch on how the pricing would be unmatched and that the customer service would be bar none. Dan said they will come to each job, measure up, and deliver materials and make everything easy. He did come to measure, gave me a fair price but nothing that special I could've got from my other vendors, and did deliver the materials. But it was far from easy! The material they delivered came on a flatbed tractor trailer bed that had no capabilities of unloading. I had to provide multiple men to unload it. In addition I was originally told that the materials would be delivered Between 11 AM and 1 PM on a Weds. At 5 PM the Tues prior I get a call telling me the truck is now going to deliver at 9 AM. I explained on such short notice I couldnt have men there at 9 AM but he insisted that he had no control over the delivery for it is a third-party delivery truck and basically it is what it is and if we are not there at 9 AM that we will be charge a trip fee. I made it happen though, my men were there by 9 AM. 9 AM comes and goes and the truck never shows up until 1 PM. So I had to pay 4 men to stand around to do nothing until 1 PM. Then we find that some of the materials were not the right size for they were missed measured. We also found that the screws they gave us were not adequate for the job for they kept breaking. I went to their office and explain the situation and the woman working there explained that Dan was unavailable and her and Dan are the ONLY 2 employees that work there. This location has a sizable warehouse and a good size office and there are only 2 employees that work there. REALLY? ONLY 2 EMPLOYEES? WAY UNDERSTAFFED! and unable to handle customer needs! The lady explained that she runs the office and has to also run the warehouse and unload and load customers and trucks. The lady told me that she would order materials the right size and for us to pick them up next Wednesday and bring the mis-measured material back for a even exchange. She did exchange out the screws for me. Now I have to wait a week to get the right material which is holding up my job and money! Next Weds came and we we're told that truck would not get there till 330 and we would have to wait to Thurs. We didn't understand why so I asked why cant we not pick them up at 3:30 for they close at 4:30 PM according to their website. They explained they're leaving early at 4 PM and they are not willing to work a little late to unload the truck for us to get the materials. After enough argument they decided they would unload the truck. When they did that they refused to exchange the materials. The salesman(Dan)said I would have to buy them. I explained that the Lady in the office told me last week she would exchange it no charge. He said he is the manager and he is over ruling her and that I signed off on the materials so we are going to have to buy them. Keep in mind the total amount of the re-made materials was only $160. Not exactly a fortune I'm asking for here especially considering I spent almost 4K. But he still would not stand behind it even though he was the one that measured for the materials and knowing he held my job up. I will never do business with them again! He also told my employees that I was a pain in the Axx. Very unprofessional! My question is who is really the pain in the Axx here? The customer who ordered materials and paid in full almost 4K and just expected what he was told and promised during the B.S sales pitch, or the company that cant deliver what they promise? This entire ordeal with McElroy was a pain in the Axx! Which cost our company money! I have been in business for 15 years and never had such a poor experience with a vendor!
