I cannot in good conscious recommend HKC Roofing to anyone. Of course, they were professional and nice at the beginning of the job in the assessment phase and quote, but afterwards their professionalism went downhill. They are veteran owned business, that great. I’m a veteran too and I’m very disappointed in this company. When we discovered some areas of sloppy work, they “suddenly” became very bad communicators. The original problem was a massive leak into our roof/wall from our chimney. We contracted them to install flashing around the chimney and build a cricket to keep water from running against it. We also had another company come and re tuckpoint all the chimney mortar. The first thing I noticed was, after the project was finished, the workers left all the extra materials (a pickup truck full of stuff) just lying in our front yard. What the heck? I called several times and after a week or two they finally came back and picked up the mess. Ok, I was willing to let that slide and not make an issue of it. We were told how “busy” they were after all. We assumed everything was fine and the work was done well. Unfortunately, months later, the same leaking issue returned. We started reassessing all the work that was done—not just HKC--trying to figure out why the same leak was back. This is when we climbed up on the roof and saw the work for ourselves. Instead of using the proper shingles for the cricket’s ridge cap they just forced normal shingles over the ridge cap which resulted in them being cracked. This is poor work. I wanted them to come out and redo it the correct way. Not once have they come over to assess their work and talk face to face with us. They sent some “guy” over (he didn’t bother to communicate with us) went up on the roof and then drove off. In fact, I had to climb up on the roof myself to even see what he did. If your going to run a business, make communicating with your costumers—especially customers who are upset and doubt your work—an important job. We had no problems communicating with the other company that did the tuck-point and mortar joints. I called them and told them about our problem, and they were quick to communicate with us. They immediately sent a team to come back out and see what they could to help remedy the situation. They explained their work to us and tried to help us figure out what to do with our leak. I expected HKC to act in the same professional manner, but they have done everything they can to ignore us. That’s fine. So, here is your review.

Let me preface by saying that having a roof replaced is a huge deal. It's a process with a lot of paperwork, ins-and-outs, and expensive! HKC, and everyone that I have met that is affiliated with this company, including the owner, are fantastic. I had the pleasure of being introduced to HKC through an event they put on at Rupp Arena for other vendors in the community. During lunch, I sat with the owner, who was very humble and personable. Our roof had been damaged throughout our Kentucky winter, and we needed a completely new roof. Annie was our Rep for the Lexington area. Not only had she gone above and beyond dealing with our insurance company. ( who made it incredibly difficult to complete the insurance claim due to poor communication on their end) but her comprehension of our needs and patience in explaining it all, made the process much less painful and nerve-wrecking. She also made sure to come back and check the work once the project had been completed. The crew was thorough and polite. And finished the job quickly. I can not thank them enough for the great service they provided.

Just recently our family had a new roof put on by HKC roofing and I have to say that it was one of the most stressful yet least stressful experiences I have ever had to deal with in my life so far. To explain the insurance co did what insurance companies always do they will do and say whatever they have to, to get out of paying. However they have never had to deal with Annie our liaison from HKC. So they sent someone over to get the estimate. A few days later and said that they would pay, good deal right? Not so fast after all the contracts were SIGNED & DATED they pulled their old tricks and tried walking back their aggrement by saying that they looked back over the pictures and said they already paid for the same work once. WRONG! We had filed a claim a year ago for similar work but it was the roof over our addition to the kitchen and me thinking I can do anything tried to fix it and was wrong so we are having to get that financed which Annie also helped tremendously to get the loan for. The insurance company did not look and see that intresting detail. Nevertheless round after round Annie fought for us. In the end we have gotten a beautifully professional roof at a fair price. The employees we delt with were nothing but professional, clean, and respectful to our home and my family and the whole company went above and beyond what my expectations of how a company should be. It has been a pleasurable experience considering and that is solely due to the hard work and dedication that Annie and HKC roofing have shown. I would sincerly like to say thankyou and that I would recommend HKC Roofing to anyone who wants a smooth handling of a rough situtation.
