I feel like bragging a bit on Hansen Buildings. I am in Southern Arizona and ordered a full building kit from Hansen December 2018 to build a 5000 sq ft shop for my company TOP TREAD STAIRWAYS . There were a few minor snags along the way, but all in all, I am very happy. If I were to start over, I would use them again! Thanks Hansen Team!!

While Hansen advertises a pole building package, what you're really buying is a permit-ready set of engineered plans and materials that are sourced through various nationwide vendors. Like so many businesses, any sense of customer service vanishes once they have your money. They really don't want to hear from you again. Questions and anything else will be charged at high extra fees. The low package cost was offset by having to purchase items that were missing and confusion with the local planning authority. Bottom Line: You get what you pay for. You're likely to be better off hiring a local engineer and source materials from your local building materials supplier. Pros: Reasonable package cost, decent instructions if you're starting out with pole buildings; very handy to have engineering included w/plans. Cons: Numerous missing materials and parts; lumber package was very poor quality, customer service is non-existent; questionable (cheap?) design.

Hello Ross Thank you for your feedback and sorry to hear your customer experience was not up to expectations. We really do want to hear from you after the sale and especially see photos when completed. Our process, as you know, is to inventory materials as they arrive and report any missing, damaged or poor quality materials after inventory. I dont show in our records that you reported any issues with any materials to your project coordinator Justine. If something is reported missing or damaged it is replaced as soon as possible at no cost to you. While live phone support does have a cost, email technical support is free 7 days a week and is responded to as soon as possible. I do not see record of any technical support requests in your file but if you have questions we would be happy to help. Email support allows us to log your question, look into the best answer and provide any CM references or plans details to help visually answer those requests. I would like to know what you felt was questionable or cheap about the design. Each individual member and connection is calculated and shown in the sealed calculations. We want all clients feeling they got the best value for their hard earned money when they are done. Our top priority is providing the best post frame experience. Please reach out with any other feedback or questions at 866-200-9657. Eric Hansen Buildings Managing Owner

I was so excited to get my Hansen Building kit. This was a lifelong dream of mine to build my forever home on my property. When I started talking to Doug who helped me navigate the process, I had a lot of confidence that I made the right choice. Doug is personable and professional. But that is where everything about Hansen's stops. The CAD designer for Hansen's was so unprofessional and rude, I am shocked that they employ someone who tells a customer, that in essence, he doesn't feel invested because he wasn't making any money off of me. He specifically stated that he typically only drafts 8000 sq. ft. homes and my small 1600 sq. ft. was basically a waste of his time and he wasn't going to make any money on my project. It reflected in his final work, as my building permit wouldn't go through until he corrected his floor plan that clearly was a waste of his time. Granted, Hansen's reimbursed me for the cost, but the experience was not positive whatsoever. That is when I started questioning whether I was making a bad decision. I probably should have backed out at that point, but I trusted Doug. Once we got through that, the materials took a lot longer than the original quoted lead time. Granted, this was all during COVID, but at the very least, be honest about when you are getting the materials. Had we got them in the original lead time, we would have had more help going through the materials, but we didn't have enough people to help by the time they showed up. So it took my son and I additional time to go through everything and by the time we discovered broken windows, missing materials, etc., we were passed the 48 hour window they give you, which is completely unrealistic. I agree that they shouldn't give you unlimited time, but 48 hours is just a way for them to get out of resolving material issues. As a result of all of the damaged and missing materials, I ended up purchasing an additional $3k in materials. Of course, this is during COVID, but I had OSB boards that were so trashed, I couldn't use them and 10' length boards that were 9'. Let's talk about the windows. Clearly, the buyer for Hansen's went cheap, cheap, cheap. I could have sworn I saw somewhere in my paperwork, that I was getting a solid name brand window. What I got were 2 different brands. Jeld Wen and Silverline. More than 1/2 of the Jeld Wen windows had broken glass panes. ALL of them had warpage. The Silverline brand was weird because they didn't really even match up with the Jeld Wen window style other than they were white. The Silverline windows were held by a cheap hard plastic piece that came broken. I was shocked that Hansen's stood by such low quality window products. I decided at that point, I would just replace everything with Milgard windows. Also, it was super weird that for a 1600 sq. ft. exterior shell, the almost $50k price tag seems way off for the quality of materials I received. I mean, if you are going to short me 3 brackets, seriously, you are that cheap that you couldn't send a few extra? To me, it really is logical to assume, that you might lose 1 or 2 when building. But in the end, I ended up having to purchase additional brackets and then of course, when you call out a specific nail, and the closest hardware store 15 miles away doesn't even carry it? So, now, I am purchasing them online and paying for shipping on top of it. I wish I had listened to my neighbor who built his pole barn garage building with a Colorado pole building supplier. His kit was twice the sq. footage and 1/2 the cost. He also got ALL of the hardware he needed for his building. He was a former building contractor so his experience would have been invaluable had I known prior to my purchasing the Hansen kit. I do agree with the poster who also had a bad experience. The ONLY thing that to me was valuable, were the engineered plans. But it was not worth the $50k for a 1600 sq. ft. exterior structure. My next project is a garage, but it won't be with Hansen's.

Hello Beth - Thank you for your feedback. First we would like to point out that the floor plan service you chose to use is not one of our CAD drafters. You used a third party that we do have a relationship with but they are a different business not employed by us. I can give them the feedback though on whomever you spoke with regarding floorplans. As you mention, we also did reimburse you for those and you got them for free. Yes Covid did create material delivery delays for everyone across the country. There are still many shortages today that are outside of our control but we do our best to communicate any of those delays and update clients as we have up to date info available. We are very clear upfront that as materials arrive you must inventory materials. Easily the most common mistake a handful of our clients make is not inventorying in a timely manner and then leaving materials in the weather until they are ready to use them. Yes our policy states 48 hours to inventory but we commonly give people an extra week or two if needed. This has nothing to do with 'getting out of resolving material issues' as you state, but it is a direct result of us having no recourse with suppliers if it is not done in a timely fashion. Too often people think they should be able to come back months after something has delivered. At that point there is no way of knowing how something got damaged or if it was delivered missing. You were reminded of this policy multiple times and never said anything about needing more time or having an issue with this. I would guess you chose not to look at the materials closely until you got close to the time of construction and that is a big mistake. If anything is broken, missing or damaged though we do take care of those issues immediately when inventory is done. As far as shorting brackets and the extra materials you claim to have needed, if you had inventoried and reported anything missing we would have resolved that. It is likely that some materials were installed incorrectly and not needed as a result. Not once did we get any email or call regarding anything missing or damaged from you until this review. We also did not get any calls asking for technical support which is free with your purchase. It is impossible for us to fix an issue if we are unaware of one. No we do not send extra materials because that drives the cost up. Nobody wants to get done with their project to have an extra 5%-10% of everything laying around knowing that they paid for them. If you would have asked for 3 joist hangers even a month after we most likely would have sent them out as a courtesy to you even if they were misused. Again though we were never notified of any issues. As far as kit prices go, trying to compare what someone paid for an entirely different building at a different location and time is no comparison. Yes you had a significant investment in your building with us which we appreciate, but it also wasn't as basic as you make it out to be in your post here. The column supported floor alone that you purchased was a large percentage of the cost of this building. The theme is common among the people who have a less than desirable experience. It is those that choose not to properly inventory their materials. For any future potential client out there I would tell you like I have told many this is the most common mistake. If you are unwilling to take the time to inventory materials, which really does not take much time with two people, or hire someone else to do so for you, we are not the solution for you. With this large of investment in a building, that you are planning to use for years to come, I would encourage everyone to take that time to protect their investment and have a great experience like thousands of other clients have had with Hansen Buildings! Again, thanks for the feedback and we will use what we can to continue to improve our business.
