Greensboro roofing: Hired Greensboro Roofing to install a 4,300 sqft built-up roof on a 3 story 1900 building. There was a lack of competent supervision throughout the process and a lack of attention-to-detail. Then there is the issue of this company hiring 2 third parties for portions of the job which added additional errors. I twice called and attempted to speak with the owner to discuss the numerous issues I found through-out the process. The owner did not take my calls nor was my messages to him returned. From what the owner emailed to me when I refused the last payment of $7,500 out of $52,000 (approximate) total, it seems he received false information from his foremen. The roof installation was never completed as agreed upon and the damage to the interior of the building from the water leaks during the process nor the damage done to 1 of 4 HVAC units was corrected. Additionally, the roof looks bad and unprofessionally done. The roof also failed inspection. The damage done was small compared to the total job, but they refused to take any responsibility. They sent an HVAC tech to inspect the HVAC unit. I asked the tech if he had a license for HVAC work. He replied that he worked for a license HVAC company, but he himself did not have a license for HVAC work. He found the leak- It was in the suction line ½ inch from the connector that led to the exterior of the cabinet. There is a dimple on the suction line and small crack on the ridge of that dimple that can be seen due to the bright copper around the crack. This crack is due to the compressor unit being moved without care. I was not informed on how the process would affect the entire block with the smoke and stench from the hot tar. They did not take precautions to stop the tar vapors entering the air intakes on the roof: The result was a full restaurant to be engulfed in hot tar fumes and a loss of revenue for the restaurant. There were many issues I had to bring to the foreman and most but not all were addressed. They installed two skylights: They were installed with 3/4 gaps that allowed interior air to travel to and from the attic space. Rotten wood was left in place and simply covered up. They did go back and seal most of the gaps, but it was obvious the work was not done properly. The flashing was done by a third party and there were several areas that were not flashed or flashed improperly. There were several areas and screw heads that were overlooked when they applied caulking as well. A plumbing vent was covered over with no vent installed. A downspout was supposed to be installed for the gutter and it was not done. Water intrusion. There were several times during the installation that significant water entered the building from the perimeter of the roof. The reason this occurred because the workers cut the existing rubber roof at roof level which left a gap of about ½ inch between the parapet walls and the roof. They did a poor job tacking felt paper to the wall and it blew off several times. Water streamed into the building from the hvac vents and down the walls. I have videos and pictures. of this and sent some of them to the owner with no response from him. Damage to the plaster walls, drywall ceilings, and two fire alarm components were damaged from the water intrusion. There are tar marks left from the workers on the wall, stairs, and door handles. Some of them were cleaned but many remain, and I have photos of those that remain.
