  I've lived at Midwestern Apartments for going on two years and I definitely got lucky finding such a great first place to live on my own. I don't have much experience with landlords, but Mike has to be among the best. Any complaints I could have are either out of his control (lack of recycling on site) or things that he makes a priority to fix (an Asian beetle problem last fall resulted in Mike calling a company to spray the apartment). Any issues I've had he's personally taken care of as soon as possible. I was initially very surprised that you have to put such a large deposit down, but it must be successful in bringing in good people as I have never had an issue with any neighbors. Living on the second floor, it does get very warm very quickly in the summer (it'll be 80 in the apartment on a 70 degree sunny day) but fortunately there's heavy duty air conditioners in the living rooms and bedrooms and ceiling fans so as long as you don't mind paying for it it does the job just fine (although they're pretty noisy). The outside noise from the highway (there's virtually no neighbor noise) and lack of a dishwasher are really the only two negatives I have, but it's not enough to outweigh all the great things about living here. Snow removal could be a real pain in the butt, but Mike is about as accommodating as one could be and you have until 10 am to move your vehicle. Even then, there's another lot behind the apartments that will be plowed and you can just park there. I would recommend these apartments to anyone. The worst part about eventually moving out will definitely be the hard task of finding a place that's run as well as this one.

  I rented from Ellefson Builders, Inc. for just over a year and it was the best place I could have ever asked for, for a starting apartment after college. Very reasonably priced and Mike and his team responded to any needs in a prompt manner. This apartment had nice appliances, large bathroom, and spacious walk in and hallway closets. Only downside was the noise with the traffic off of highway 61. You wouldn't hear it when your window was closed, but on a nice spring/summer day, it made it difficult to open the window. As I stated above, I would recommend Mike and Ellefson Builders to anyone looking to rent. Him and his team are detailed and care for their tenants above anyone else in Winona.

  I have lived in the Kaylan Executive Apartments since it opened in 2013. Mike Ellefson of Ellefson Builders, Inc. built a quality apartment complex in a good neighborhood. I have been extremely happy with my apartment and Mike Ellefson is the best owner/landlord that I have ever had. The apartments are well-built with a beautiful kitchen and bathroom area as well as a laundry room complete with a washer and dryer. Mike is attentive to the needs of the renters. He is courteous, always available and takes time to answer questions and explain things. Kaylan Executive Apartments have a heated garage and there is outside parking as well. The common areas are clean and neat and the grounds are well-maintained. I have had an exceptionally positive experience living at Kaylan Executive Apartments and I would recommend these apartments or any other properties built by Ellefson Builders, Inc. I would also recommend Mike Ellefson as an exceptional landlord. I plan on living in Kaylan Executive Apartments for many years to come.
