We had mark come out and inspect our cottage that’s on the same property as our main home. We didn’t have storm damage to file a claim but we were willing to pay cash, never got a return phone call, estimate or email. We called Don contracting and got a estimate and email the next day, Don general construction got our business. Even after calling cook roofing several times and then talking to my wife a few times, it was crickets. Apparently they didn’t want our business.

I’m sorry we do not even have any record of your project, especially since Mark hasn’t looked at any projects in the area for over six months, due to projects outside of the area. Please remove your statement.

We had Mark Cook come out to do a roof inspection. He told us that our roof had enough damage to open a claim. During our open claim, I felt like Mark was not communicating with me, and did not follow through with his promises of helping us during the claim process. Maybe he was busy, who knows, but I wish he would have said so and not waisted my time. He also swore on the phone, which I didn’t find professional. Thankfully, I was able to find Don Roofing and they were super professional, had great communication, and got the job done!

Sarah, First of all, I’m glad that you were able to get a quality roof, and get the job done to your satisfaction. Apparently you were finally able to get the adjuster to agree to the damage. I’m sorry to see that you felt the need to torpedo my business with a 2-star review though. I work hard for the 5-star ratings I have, and your job was no different. For example, you might recall that in the course of our interactions: - Way back in November 2019, I found and alerted you to damage that would generally be covered, as long as a competent insurance adjuster handled your claim properly. I believe the initial adjuster denied the claim, but given that you eventually got the work done, I assume you got that taken care of. - If I could negotiate with the insurance about the price of the claim, I’d love to. But contractors are legally not allowed to adjust claims. Perhaps you misunderstood how much I would be able to assist with the claim itself, and thought that meant negotiating the claim. If that is what you mean by not following through, then you’re correct, I was not willing to break the law. Hopefully, that is not what earned me a 2-star review. - If the adjuster was unable or unwilling to recognize the damage to your property, your policy provides additional resources to you. I made you aware of these resources, but you were not willing to pursue them. - Inspections and site visits take a tremendous amount of time. When you decided you needed your roof done after all, between March 30, 2020 and April 10, I made several trips to your property, and we emailed and texted 11 times in addition to several phone calls. If that is what you consider not communicating, then I’m not sure what more you had hoped for. Perhaps you would let me know. Most jobs only take two or three visits before installation, which includes signing a contract. - In many areas of the country, roofing companies start with a signed contract, before doing inspections, etc, because of the reason above. I try to help people out, and often just trust that when someone is running me back and forth, they will show goodwill in return by giving me their business. Sometimes it turns out that people take my estimate and work, and then go save their insurance company money by getting a cheap contractor. But I believe that treating people right is the right thing to do. I’m disappointed to see that you felt the free effort I expended to try to help you was only worth a 2-star rating. - In the end, we agreed that another contractor might be able to better serve you. And it seems that Don’s was able to do that. This review surprised me, since it’s been 47 days since we last communicated, and you chose to have someone else do the work. If you’d like to address the above, I’m happy to talk about it. Otherwise, I will assume you just left this out of spite. I hope when you leave future reviews, you consider what you leave carefully, knowing that undeserved, careless bad reviews can tank the ratings of a great local business which has been serving the community since 1913.

Cook Roofing came out after insurance only wanted to pay for a few shingles. Another roofing company was going to just do a patch for what insurance paid, but Cook said the roof really needed to be replaced and explained why. Insurance came back and looked again and agreed with Cook's estimate. I love my new roof, it looks great! Glad I went with quality instead of cheap, and I still only had to pay the deductible!
Response from the owner
Thanks Jim. A second look is often needed by the insurance.
