In 2006, Buck Construction constructed the newly built the home new we currently reside in. We have realized much in the way of negligence regarding their overall workmanship. The roof tiles are IKO Shingles and after 8 years, the 30 year shingles were cracking, curling, and nails were popping. As such, we were informed by several roofing professionals upon inspection, the 6.000+ SQFT roof was in need of a complete replacement. When the roofers commenced with removing the existing roof, installed by Buck Construction in 2006, they realized many shortcuts that were taken during the installation that amount to negligence on the part of Buck Construction. All of which have been photographed, which I’d attach if the option on this site permitted. The list is as follows: - No flashing was installed on the roof returns. This resulted in rot and water leaks. - Tar paper under the roofing tiles was only applied in some locations, and much of the roofing tiles were placed directly on top of plywood. - There is an upper and lower roof section and the lower roof had no water and Ice barrier installed as it should have given the weather conditions in the state of Maine. This resulted in plywood rotting and needing replacement. - Corners / Seams from the main roof to the dormers were overlapped incorrectly. This can result in Ice damming and making is way underneath the roofing tiles causing leaks. - There were many plywood pieces that had no nails, yes folks, 0 nails and slid right down the roof. The entire sub roofing (Plywood) roof was not properly nailed down and had to be addressed. - The open space at the peak of the roof for venting should be approximately 2” on either side of the roof pitch for venting. In this case it total space was approximately 9-10”. In summary based on firsthand experience in realizing their very poor workmanship, Buyer Beware if you’re considering Buck Construction. The aforementioned amounts to negligence on the part of Buck Construction and is inexcusable.
