I have used Allan’s roofing for a long time getting good results at reasonable prices. But now he spends less time, if any, up on the roof and runs crews and something far different seems to exist. Here is the recent tale to consider. I had some leaks on the roof and Allan said $1150 to fix and 11,500 for a new roof. I did not get a written estimate which one should never do, and the service provider should always do. After the repairs I got a contract to sign after the fact which had the price at $1850. Worse, Allan later advised me that when I do put in a new roof it would be more expensive because the repairs would have to be removed and the fact of the repairs would not make the roof cheaper which I had assumed. This information should have been given to me before which would have resulted in a different choice. But this is only a warm-up. Not long after, some large tree branches fell on the front of my roof causing damage. It didn’t take any expert to see that there were other branches dangerously hanging over the roof ready to collapse and crash in the roof and that ones that fell the peril had been observable. Tree experts agreed, and one came as an emergency the next morning to cut away the branches as well as remove the branches that fell on the roof and then crashed to the ground. I called Allan to get an estimate and told him I needed it quickly as my insurance adjuster was coming and I would need to make the repairs before the rains came. At the same time I mentioned that the danger of the branches was obvious to anyone looking at it and that his crew that did the prior repairs should have mentioned it to me. A couple of days later I received a phone call from Allen saying his crew denied there was any branches hanging over rooftop. I ended the call feeling I gave him the information and there was no value in arguing with him. The weekend came and with it rain but no one came from Allen to do the estimate or prevent water damage if such danger existed. Fortunately, two other roofing companies did, plus farmers adjuster arrived, and an amount was agreed upon to be paid to me for repairs. I called Allan to ask if he was still interested in making a bid on the job and when I said my name he responded “ugh.” I said my name again and again he said, “ugh.” When I asked him if he wanted to come out and make a bid on the repair he said that I had previously told him that no tree had fallen on my house and that I was lying in saying that it had. At this point he began to scream and shout and rant for about a minute. It was so loud that it was mostly not understandable except for the continually calling me a liar and statement that no tree had fallen on my house. I calmly said against his screaming. “You are calling me a liar?... There are 2 tree experts who came out. Photos were taken. The tree was cut… fallen branches were removed. I can send you photos of the damaged roof. 2 roofers have written estimates. Farmers insurance has inspected the damage and is writing a check.” And while I calmly said these things, he continued to scream that I was a liar. Finally he hung up the phone and blocked my phone. I have decided to sue him. Service will be tricky because he only lists a PO Box. My name is Paul Morantz. I don’t believe in making anonymous post. When you write something you put your name behind it. This man called me a liar. I invite anyone reading this to Google my name and study my career. Come to your own conclusions. If you decide to do business with Allan get everything in writing up front and beware of a possible outburst problem. In my view, the upside is that he was a very good repair man but due to growth and success he may not be the person who goes up on your roof anymore.
